Cara Smith is a board certified music therapist, professional singer and social entrepreneur. Having graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2017, her post-graduate career has been an eclectic musical journey. Shortly after graduating she spent three years working as a singer for Carnival Cruise Lines and Holland America Line. This experience allowed her to travel to over 100 countries and immerse herself in countless different cultures. After cruise ships she completed her clinical internship at University Hospital’s Connor Integrative Health Network in Cleveland, Ohio. With a deep interest in ethnomusicology and a true love for world travel, she founded Umoja Global Community Music Therapy, an organization that facilitates music therapy services in East Africa. She is currently enrolled in a Master’s program at University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa where she aims to conduct research and immerse in knowledge that will better inform her work with Umoja and allow more communities access to music therapy services. She strives to promote music as a connector and healer across all boundaries and is very honored to be a part of the Mending Mothers board.
